Check a photo for supported EXIF data

An EXIF check reads metadata containers that may sit beside the visible image. File Privacy can inspect supported EXIF fields in JPEG/JPG files and PNG eXIf chunks without uploading the selected file.

Why this information can matter

EXIF is a metadata format commonly used by cameras and imaging software. Depending on the file, it can contain capture time, camera make and model, lens details, software names, author or copyright text, serial-related fields, maker notes, and GPS coordinates. A field being possible does not mean it is present in every photo. Screenshots, exported images, messaging apps, and editing tools may produce very different metadata.

A careful browser-local workflow

    Choose a JPEG, JPG or PNG file no larger than the current 50 MB limit.

    Review the privacy categories and open the technical metadata panel when you need the underlying values.

    If supported sensitive findings appear, create a cleaned copy and wait for the automatic re-scan.

    Download the new copy only after reviewing the verification result. The original file remains unchanged.

What this version supports

For JPEG, the checker reads supported TIFF/EXIF fields and identifies XMP APP1, Photoshop/IPTC APP13 and JPEG comment containers. For PNG, it reads supported eXIf data and reports text or time chunks including tEXt, iTXt, zTXt and tIME. Findings are grouped into practical categories such as location, identity, device, time, software and general metadata.

Limits to keep in mind

This is a practical privacy check, not a forensic inventory of every metadata standard. Proprietary fields, malformed data, encrypted content, metadata in unsupported containers, or information encoded into visible pixels may not be detected. A result with no supported findings does not guarantee that the file is anonymous or safe for every situation.
